Moon Rock Shadow Theory

A lot of the conspiracy theories that arose from the Moon Landing come from the examination of the video footage and photography brought back from the trip. This image, in particular, was troublesome due to the fact that the shadow on the ship was parallel while the rocks appeared to have a distorted shadow. It made it appear like there was another light source on the moon that made it so the moon rocks would have a shadow that was going in a different direction.

The problem with this theory is the fact that conspiracy theorists are making the assumption that the moon is flat. The guys from Mythbusters recreated this shot in their studios and did see both sides of it. They did everything they could to recreate a surface that resembled the moon all the way down to the dust like substance that covers it. They used a camera that was almost exactly like the one brought to the moon and had a single source of bright lighting to simulate the light of the sun. Their first image had a flat surface and made the shadow of the rocks parallel in the same way as the ship. They took this experiment farther where they made their own imperfections on the moon’s surface and made it so the appearance of the shadow is in a different direction a light trick. The shadows are parallel, the surface makes them appear otherwise.

This evidence is not enough to convince some people that the moon landing was legitimate, and they believe that NASA reached out to Mythbusters to put away some of the conspiracy theories tied in with the moon landing. They were also suspicious of the fact that NASA provided them with tools to recreate these scenes and gave them the inside scoop on some of the logistics of the moon’s surface and the event of the moon landing. But without information from NASA wouldn’t that make their experiment less credible? You be the judge. The moon landing was real and there are scientific explanations for all the questionable footage or it was faked and NASA goes as far as paying off television show personalities to keep this secret under wraps.
