Moon Landing Conspiracy

With no major direct fighting during the Civil War between United States and the Soviet Union, is has getting hard for the United States citizens to get behind this war. Over the next couple of days, information will be presented on some conspiracies that helped citizens get behind the war efforts. Today the information that will be presented will be about the rise of the United States citizens getting behind the war effort.

One of the biggest conspiracy theories to get the citizens to get behind America and its war effort, was the Moon Landing in July, 1969. 

During the Cold War, there was also a space race going on, what country was going to be the first country to land a human on the moon was big news to the world. At this point in time there was a red scare, thinking that Communism was going to spread if the United States did not stop it, even after World War ll, citizens were still scared of Communism spreading. In 1957 the Soviets sent a satellite called, "Sputnik". Sputnik was a very low orbiting satellite that gave off data.  With the United States wanted to show that they were superior in every matter, including exploration, what the United States was founded on, rushed into space race gunning.

There was also a new fear that Sputnik was a space satellite that really was the Soviet Union looking into the United States. Now with it being in the space, there was no secrets left to hide from anyone, the Soviets had a new advantage of spying. This made many Americans feel very unsafe, and created a sense of paranoia.

Here is where the conspiracy comes into play. After already loosing to the Soviets to not be able to have a satellite in space first, and with the Cold War getting heated, the red scare in America was a real thing. To make a power push to get the citizens back with backing the United States war effort as well as getting them to feel as if they were killing Communism, the United States government faked the moon landing to get the support. As seen in the photo below astronaut Buzz Aldrin is standing on what looks to be the moon with a American flag that in blowing in the wind. The problem with that is that there is no wind in space, there are claims of no stars being in the background, as well as the photographs being taken too high in the air. 

Propaganda always plays a big part of any war, wether that is positive or negative propaganda. If this conspiracy theory is true, or if the moon landing actually happed. It rallied many Americans behind the Cold War, including increasing money towards NASA that was recently started.

Looking back at this event today, one can see that Sputnik was not a secret spy satellite, but back then it could of been very scary. But this is a cool conspiracy theory that helped start NASA and other government space funding by using propaganda for their benefit. At that point it was also very beneficial for America to win the space race, because in a was it was its own war of its own. To show what country was the more technologically advanced. By showing that your country is more advanced means that, that country is powerful and a head of everyone else.
