Monica Lewinsky Conspiracy
The Clinton-Lewinsky scandal was an American political sex scandal that involved 49-year-old President Bill Clinton and 22-year-old White House intern Monica Lewinsky. The sexual relationship took place between 1995 and 1997 and came to light in 1998. Lewinsky stated that she had sexual encounters with Bill Clinton on nine different occasions.
News of the scandal first broke on January 17, 1998. The story circulated for several days and despite quick denials from the Clintons, the public really wanted some answers. On January 26, President Clinton, standing with his wife, spoke at a White House press conference, and issued a very forceful denial in which he stated “I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky”. He went on the say that he has never lied to anyone about it and that the allegations are false. The next day, in an appearance on NBC’s Today show, Hilary Clinton said that the story of her husband’s affair with Monica Lewinsky was nothing more than a vast right-wing conspiracy. She believes that they have been conspiring against her husband since the day he announced his plans to run for president.
The improper relationship between Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky was confirmed, but his marriage to Hilary Clinton survived the scandal. And so did his presidency, even though he was charged with perjury and obstruction of justice. He was acquitted of all charges and remained in office.
Fast forward twenty years later. Monica Lewinsky writes an article in Vanity Fair on the 20thanniversary of the scandal involving her and President Clinton. Monica credits her decision to come forward after many years of silence to Tyler Clementi, an 18 year-year-old who committed suicide after a video of him kissing another man was broadcast online.
However, Lynne Cheney, wife of former Vice President Dick Cheney, suggests the Clintons are behind Monica Lewinsky’s new essay in Vanity Fair. Her theory is that it was the Clintons’ idea for Monica to write the story so they could go ahead and get the scandal out of the way before Hilary’s campaign for the presidency got started. Others also added that it could have had something to do with building sympathy for Hilary also before the election.
Whatever the case may be, it doesn’t really matter now. Don’t you agree President Trump?
