JFK Assassination and the CIA

It’s been half a century since the shooting of President John F. Kennedy and since then decades of investigations, hearings, documents and records have sparked paranoia and conspiracy throughout the nation. The question that conspiracy theorists always asked is did Lee Harvey Oswald act alone when he shot the president or was is it actually our own CIA behind this devious act. 

Conspirators believe the secretive manor of the CIA and the number of political assassinations in the 1960s opened up many doors for why the government might have killed Kennedy. Some motives that support the assassination include Kennedy’s refusal to provide air support to the Bay of Pigs, his plan to cut the agency’s budget by 20 percent, and the belief that he was soft on communism.

Jim Garrison stated that anti-communists in the CIA planned the assassination of Kennedy to maintain tension with the Soviet Union and Cuba and set Oswald up as a fall man. In 1977, the FBI released 40,000 files involving the assassination of President Kennedy within these files on April 3, 1967 memorandum from Deputy Director Cartha DeLoach to Assocaite Director Clyde Tolson that was written After President Johnson learned from J. Edgar Hoover about plans to kill Castro. According to DeLoach, LBJ aide Marvin Watson, stated that the President had told him that he was convinced that there was a plot in connection with the assassination. Watson stated the President felt that the CIA had something to do with this plot.

             The question of who killed Kennedy will forever be a mystery in our society. There will always be the unanswered questions of whether Oswald actually committed this crime by his self or was it a government ploy to keep the United States tension between Cuba and the Soviet Union?
