Is Avril Lavigne dead?

In 2003, during the height of her career and in the middle of writing her "Sophomore" album the allegation of Avril Lavigne's suicide surfaced. The conspiracy has been identified as a hoax and an example of how fast an internet conspiracy can spread. The theory being that Avril Lavigne took her life in 2003 shortly after the death of her grandfather and because she was at the peak of her career she was replaced by a similar woman by the name Melissa Vandella. The music company hired her as a look-a-like to impersonate her. The internet had a much different idea though. The compilation of photos and videos before and after the rumor apparently (to some individuals) points to the fact that Avril actually did die. Blog users and fans on the internet started comparing photos and noticing that the new Avril had a different eye shape, jaw line and even different hand writing.
The internet is a useful tool for many things but it can also cause the downfall of celebrities as seen in recent years. Not long ago this theory resurfaced and Avril had to take to social media platforms again to reassure people that she is alive and well. These death hoaxes have been happening to celebrities more and more often to the point where it causes significant emotional distress for many of them and for Avril that distress came in the form of having to go on a hiatus from music and a majority of publicity interactions.
