Fear of a Black Planet Lyrics By Public Enemy
Public Enemy created an album called "The Fear of the Black Planet," which also included a song with the same title. The song has two themes: Inter-racial relationships, and racism in the American media. This track criticizes America for its hatred of inter-racial relationships, and even goes as far as saying, "What is wrong with a little color in your family tree?"
The lyrics:
"Man, don't you worry 'bout a thing
'Bout your daughter, nope she's not my type
But suppose' she said she loved me
Are you afraid of the mix of Black and White?
We're livin' in a land where the law
Mixing of race makes the blood impure
She's a woman I'm a man
Look on your face, I see ya can't stand it"
The continues by describing white communities fearing Black people, and how racism has always been an issue in Public Enemy's music. The lyrics talk about the white communities fear of Black and White mixing because they see it as impure
The lyrics:
"Are you afraid of the mix of Black and White
We're livin' in a land where
The law say the mixing of race
Makes the blood impure
She's a woman I'm a man
But by the look on your face
See ya can't stand it"
Public Enemy obviously wanted to show people what it is like to be seen as unequal and impure. The band wanted to show everyone how harsh discrimination is and it is a song, but it is also like a speech. A speech to the world to stop discrimination and to learn to accept one another even though people are different, in fact every human is different from the other. The song was supposed to make create a rage just like many other anti-racist speeches in the past.
