NCAA Financial Conspiracy
In some way we are all familiar with the NCAA, we watch a majority of the sports that are representing or are encompassed in the "non-profit" organization. I quote non-profit because of one simple fact, the NCAA generates Billions of dollars but claims to be a non-profit organization. There is a argument that has been brewing in the sports world over the concept if we should pay the college athletes or if the education they get paid for is equivalent to receiving a paycheck. Now being a college athlete in NAIA my road and opinion of the matter is vastly different due to the fact that my schooling isn't covered under a full scholarship. I get some money from my sport along with academic scholarships but the cost of school compared to the scholarships compensation is about 50% of how much my schooling costs.
The Argument being made by the Division I NCAA student athletes (a majority of which are football players) is that the college education they get for 100% free* in most cases, is still not enough and to ad icing on the cake the colleges along with the NCAA use the players just like professional athletes creating video games having them sign autographs and doing press events, but they reap 0% of there likeness used.
The NCAA is the organization that sets the standard and rules of the athletic programs of the colleges underneath its rule system. These rules include the fact that college level athletes cannot be paid for what they due. Because they cant get paid they receive scholarships that go towards the payment of their education. The idea is that the scholarships they receive is sufficient enough instead of paying the players. While this seems like a good idea, people fail to realize all of the money that gets garnered in from the players actually playing and their popularity. Most programs generate money from the players that they have. Along with contracts to big corporations like NIKE, Under Armor, and Adidas taking over the sports industry as far as product and merchandise placement.
In short the NCAA, the Colleges, and the Corporations all garner money from the "student-Athletes" while they don't receive a dime of any of the money that they generated.
