Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker

One of the biggest conspiracies in the 1980s was the fraud of people who were apart of evangelists Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker's church. This was one of the biggest religious conspiracies of all time. Jim Bakker was a pastor of a PTL Ministry who robbed his followers out of $158 million. What he did was, he built an "amusement park" for his followers in South Carolina, and also created a television network that aired his shows and other religious programming. He would take donations from his followers, and promised to invest it into his park so they could take vacations at his park and would allow them to rent a property in his park. Eventually, he tricked them out of $158 million, and spend $3 million alone on luxury cars, and air-conditioned dog houses for his dogs. For a man that preached humbleness and the word of God, he went totally against his teachings. On top of this, he was accused of having a sexual affair with one of the church's secretaries, and used millions of the embezzled $158 million to keep her quiet. So the money he embezzled not only was used for his own materialistic wants, but was also used to aid the silence of a sex scandal.
One thing that I have personally noticed is with the church and their material items that are involved with the service. I am Catholic and during our mass we do money collections for basic utilities, finances, and aid in the living expenses of the priest. But what I do not understand is that when we simulate the Last Supper in the preparation of the bread and wine, I notice the elegance of the chalices and the bowls that hold the bread and wine. It is proven that when Jesus roamed the earth and had his Last Supper, they had clay cups, and clay bowls, very modest, but during our mass we have these golden chalices, and golden bowls, that are very elegant, so why do churches focus on elegance if Jesus did not preach that, in fact he preached against that. This is the same with Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker, they were hypocrites in going against with what they preached.
